Had a few minutes again tonight. Got it to load a 300K model and an 8K map, and working with an image at default size (1K I think) it was moving around okay. I then reloaded the mesh and image into a 4K res Octane file and it crashed. It actually blacked out the video card and I'm going to have to reboot because now I have little sparkles all over my screen and Octane won't load anything anymore :)

Anyway, clearly it's possible to get 8K into it, but the overall resolution of the render is definitely a key factor. Some kind of strip rendering solution still looks pretty good if it's doable.

Do you monitor your video card temp ?
It could be your GPU overheating :?

no, but I will look into how I can do that. I think I'll still wait for the beta for more testing though - right now it's a bit limited and I feel like I'm spinning my wheels a bit.
