Hi Guys,

If I would go for a new build right now... I would probably go for a watercooled quad Titan X.
but then, I still would have an aircooled build next to it to swap cards if needed too.
To have the benefits of both worlds then seems like a good mixture (like a good cocktail ;) ... the freedom and backup like Gabrielle mentioned, and the more optimal perfromance of watercooling Smicha is pointing out.
The pros and cons of air- and waterbuilds... probably there is nog good or bad way.. it al depends on personal needs, budgets, dreams..
So nice to have you all share your experience.

cheers,

but then, on the other hand... 7x (or surely 8x) GTX 1080 might be more (render)value for money then a quad Titan X?
@Smicha.. you might have any idea when comparing price/value of a 7x1080 and a 4x Titan X build (both on water)
@Gabrielle, you would go for a quad Titan X on air, right? What about the downside of having those cards so close to each other... you do not get the performance of these cards that could be. Is your Silverstone TJ11case (are your cases ;-) so well aircooled that that is not an issue?

I do not intend to go for a new build, but just dreaming again... your fault guys.. talking about this stuff

Correct - it's all about your needs. My point of view:

3 gpus on air with extra space for decent temps and lower noise and good performance
4 gpus hybdrid (if price is attractive) - lower noise, very good performance
4 gpus water - best performance, silent, more expensive than hybrid
7 gpus water - compact in one case, single slotted, massive performance, silent, requires a very well ventilated room

7 gpus vs 4 gpus on water is about 2-3k eur more (depending on gpus) when there are 7 gpus (add cost of 3 gpus, 3 water blocks and one 480 radiator with 4 fans, 4 more fittings). It benefits a lot - no extra mobo, cpu, psu, case, pump.... just cut gpus and that's it
