Any news of Octane Render 3 - the last I heard there was going to be an open beta and then launch in Q3. I'm guessing that has slipped somewhat, but any gossip on the latest news would be welcomed!

Sorry, I can't comment on what or when for 3.0, due to NDA, all I can say is that we are working on it. I will say that I hope to release a new 2.x update this weekend.

I meant in the 2.X release, I know that Sighman won't be able to give details about 3 (more than Otoy have said already!)

I have run into bugs and limitations with the Carrara UI API so I haven't finished my current development. It isn't much more that integrating the render target settings into the Carrara UI but the approach I wanted to take can't be done with the current state of the API. I have zero faith that DAZ will address these bugs so I have to change my implementation to avoid these UI issues. This will take the rest of the week. It sucks because I cannot properly implement logarithmic sliders like you have in the standalone. I also want to provide instant feedback so if you adjust a slider then you see the effect in the Octane viewport before you release the mouse. It will be interesting to see how that works out...

Hi Sighman, Thanks for the update. It is a shame you can't do what you planned, but quite honestly I think things work really well as they are. If you can streamline things, that's great, but it isn't like it isn't working well already. I think you have worked wonders with all the features and the integration with Carrara - and having dynamic hair working is the absolute icing on the cake!

Hi Sighman, There has been a discussion about an issue with Dolce Hair by 3DCelebrity, which crashes Octane and Carrara when trying to render it. It seems to be the number of Hair Groups, rather than the total number of hairs, which is causing the issue. It has 28 hair groups (!), if I delete some of them and try to render, up to 8 groups seems to be OK, around 10 groups renders but then crashes on closing the Octane window and any higher just crashes on opening when you try to render in Octane. I have seen the same behaviour with Romance Hair by 3DCelebrity, which also has a large number of groups, but simpler hairs by the same vendor work fine.

Any ideas on what the issue is and if it would be easy to fix?

Yeah, that would be my bad. I need a separate shader for each hair group and I only made provision for 8 of them. I was thinking, who would want to create more than 8 hair groups? I guess I was wrong  . I'll see what I can do to fix this.
