Ive had this issue before. I means the paths are incorrect in your houdini.env somewhere.

Recheck the paths and make sure the slashes are correct way round and all the "", $PATH stuff is all correct to.

Maybe in the final version an installer could do this automatically Jaungo ? :)

I think that your houdini.env file should be something like this, with the $PATH at the end of the PATH variable:

PATH = "C:/Program Files/Side Effects Software/Octane_h14/bin;$PATH"
HOUDINI_PATH = "C:/Program Files/Side Effects Software/Octane_h14;&"

Great, I think that the problem could be the "$PATH" string position. If you have more problems, let me know.

Also notice that Houdini seems to be sensitive to errors in the HOUDINI_PATH string in houdini.env. In my case:

HOUDINI_PATH = /opt/htoa-1.5.2;/opt/octanerender-houdini-2.23.2.4&
.. was wrong but ...

HOUDINI_PATH = /opt/htoa-1.5.2;/opt/octanerender-houdini-2.23.2.4;&
.. was right. The difference is that I forgot the last semicolon before &

It's awesome to see octane in Houdini! Wondering if this plugin works with the Houdini Indie license as well? Thanks.

Currently the plugin can't work in the Indie version because the Indie version doesn't allow third party render engines and it only works with the native ROP nodes. This is something that only SideFX can change ;)

Juanjo,

Great job, Its amazing to see Octane working even with volumetrics from this revision (2.23) I have a couple of questions if you dont mind. Is it possible to render cubemaps with the plugin? If so, could you assist me to do so?

And second question, being this beta so close to the release of Octane 3 would it affect on any special way the upgrade from this plugin (2.23) to the next version one?

Cubemaps for VR? Yes, you can render this kind of scenes. In the render target select the panoramic camera and set the camera type to "Cube Map", set the Fov angles to 360x180, enable the "Keep Upright" option and set the Stereo Output to "Side by Side". Also you need to set the camera resolution to 18432x1536.

Currently I don't have any reference about the upgrade price of the plugins for Octane 3. I think the the current 2.2 plugin could be sold at reduced price until the Octane 3 plugin release, so the price of the current 2.2 plugin plus the upgrade price to 3.0 could be near the same or even less than the full Octane 3 plugin license at normal price. But anyway it is too early to speak about prices and release dates ;)
