It's a bit better, but in your own video you have someone that complains the you guys should show that technology WAY better than you are doing now...
I mean, go to 3:05 and listen what the guy is saying...

That's what I mean. You're showing off a video that basically racks down on you. Not a good brand builder.

exactly that's the case..

Martin, here's a type of presentation I preffer: calm & simple but addictive (not too intrusive & pushy, but quite opposite..)

as for podcast & video blogs/logs etc : https://www.youtube.com/user/HardwareCanucks - camera work is second to none, blowing any competitor to horizon (now everyOne tries to copy Dmitry =) but more than than skills, He has pleasant tone to present this stuff..-it's just pure inspiration - every video You can look as a move even if You don't have any wish buy one =)

There are tons of Octane users online, that would so cool to talk with, somewhat following the path of Collective Podcast but spinning around Octane..

A given host for Octane podcast's course is everyone's Tom "Mr. GPU" Glimps. A humble and very ambitious person. Had I been in a executive position for OTOY I had provided him with a damn good microphone, sound card and what ever he wanted to produce an episode a week of an OTOY/Octane Podcast.
Good idea! And you can call it 'Weekly Glimps(e) on Octane"
or "Broadcast Live Otoy Glimps"
and add the podcast to a blog :D

Maybe set up an incentive system for contributors: You already have some paying users making massive* contributions (inlifethrill). Who knows how many others might have the software/experience/desire to contribute for free if the right carrot was dangled...
Licences/licence credits could be the reward (or hardware if you can swing it from supportive stakeholders) In my experience a licence or hardware at cost (given away) is cheaper than the cost of an employee & hours to generate the same content.

Would be good to get a marketing person involved in all publications at some stage; and this is a general suggestion not a specific one.
Even a project team member with marketing/graphic design background could audit the 'copy' before it's put online/print/published... we have one (graphic design, communication & MBA) in house to cast her eye over things before we publish. It's good to have someone qualified ensure the 'copy' is consice and legible.

EDIT: we all wanna see you (OTOY) succeed. I don't know about others but I constantly battle with narrow minded colleagues who're drunk on the Vray coolaide..
Edit2: found a typo*

Ok, someone (me) has to be the "black sheep". Here goes the RANT.
And you can call it 'Weekly Glimps(e) on Octane"
How about "Weekly Glimpse on WATER".... :P

No!

Please don't Glimpse.

There is a reason why Twitter has character number limitation.

Nothing personal. It's just CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM!
I respect very much your good intentions and all the help on the forums.

But.

People fail to see the true potential of Octane because someone somewhere (not just you Tom) is trying to "sell" them hardware (yes quotes around the word 'sell'). I've seen too many people turn away from Octane because conversation quickly turns to PSUs, motherboards, pipes, radiators.. and i don't even wanna know what else... JESUS CHRIST! Octane is a SOFTWARE. A TOOL. A "Pen". A "Brush".

Meanwhile..

You know what's the first thing you see when you open After Effects CC 2014 ?
Image rendered in C4DOctane!

You know what was used for mate painting and look developement on major hollywood movies and TV shows?
C4DOctane!

You know what was mentioned on the legendary Motionographer blog next to names like MTV, Patrick Clair and Elastic?
C4DOctane!
I mean look at this. FOUR replies. Really? Disgraceful.
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=43123

You know what was used to render Super Bowl graphics next to Katy freakin' Perry?
C4DOctane!

Octane "every-day" renders are becoming a THING on the internet!

Octane was covered on the Maxon NAB presentation!

list goes on and on...

And do you know who never mentioned any of that on their website?

No not Glimpse. He's a cool kid and he helped some of them.

It's OTOY.

Dear Otoy guys.
Please take off those silly VR plastic phone holders off your heads and look around.
Important people are saying nice words about Octane and you are ignoring them.

Yes they are sayng those nice words even on podcasts. Let's see if anyone else knows which ones.

Have a nice day everybody.

Hi milanm,

Seems to me that you are very worried, extremely frustrated. About what? That people actually finds Octane and uses it? :)

I think there's some wisdom of keeping a low profile - until v.3.x when Octane has all the marbles in the bag. At the moment, this is heavily a work in progress.. If this were now as popular as Photoshop, just imagine the lamentation from the masses when they find a small bug..

If you haven't seen a movie called "indie game" I recommend, although it is not related to this kind of software development, but, the masses gave death threats to the poor game developer (Fez) who did everything alone, by himself, for not being on time and perfect.

This forum has been, btw, remarkably peaceful place, compared to anywhere else.

I think the pod cast thing would have it's own place and thing. This, as a whole, is vast and interesting area. I think it should be done for the sake of doing it. Not for the sake of "selling".
