Hey smicha,

thanks for your details on your temperatures. Yeah, I got for a serial setup within the 4x connector of my 4 GPUs. That has been a mistake I think, but I didn`t want to change it. Only 2 degrees of temp difference between the gpus is really good.

Yeah, you are right about the immobility of the complete external watercooling stuff.
But keeping the radiator out of the PC is still not a bad idea I think to get low temps... and its mobile with the "hot connectors" on the tubing. No Problem with that.

The PC next to a window is a good idea...the same here.

I need to have closer look at your setup in the other threads...
How many radiators do you have inside?
The sum of your Power consumption is about 1000W, right?
I have almost 2200W in total here during full rendering... its a bit different, in terms of room heating.

Did you have a look into these waterchillers? Theres a link to a video there... one guy is driving 4 GTX680 with the Hailea HC500 there...on really crazy low temperatures... water at 8 degree, CPU at 15 degree and GPUs at 18 degree. -> which is far to low... condensation inside the pc is nothing you want to deal with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Du25KvkpaBM

But you can aim these waterchillers for watertemps up to 28 degree... would be interesting to see this rig on watertemps like 18-20 degree, that should avoid condensation and be enough for really good CPU and GPU temperatures.

Chris pointed very important element - a hot PSU. This is interesting what I can add: one week ago I mounted extra 140mm fans for push pull config on a lower 560 radiator. The fans blow air directly on a backside of PSU (two of them - one that pushes air on a rad, one that pulls). So PSU gets extra cool air thanks to fans on the radiator. And under full load when it draws 1000W it is not hot, rather warm I would say. The difference is drastic and computer is much cooler overall.

I think that a massive heat emitter is PSU itself so cooling it down cools a room too.

Chris,
I have 480 + 560 and 20 noiseblocker PL2 fans in push pull (8 of them are 140mm for a 560 rad).

When I look at your setup you have 8x580 gpus + 1x780ti, right?

This can handle 3 watercooled workstations with 4 gpus each

Hi Smicha,

these noiseblocker fans are a good find, I wish i would have read that earlier, just got 3 more Be Quiet fans for 20€ each 2 weeks ago (for the extra 3x Radiator).
The extra cooling for the PSU with your radiator fans is a good point. The nearer you get to the PSU maximum Watt usage, the hotter it gets. If you have a 1500Watt PSU and drive it at 1000 Watt, it is just fine.

I stepped over the aquacomputer Gigant a few weeks ago... this might be a auperb solution for ultra silence systems (can be used passive without fans), but a bit pricey for just the radiator.

My setup is 1x 780ti, 2x 580, 3x590 (=6x590s GPUS) = 9 GPUS in total.
There is still space for 1 more Graphic Card and another PCI-extension Adapter to another turbobox (*g*) in my PC... but first I will exchange the GTX 580 in the PC with another 780ti, if I can find a good one used. No need fot Titan Z or Titan X at the moment.
Maybe I will go crazy in future with another turbobox... I just would like to know, if a system could handle 12-13 gpus. :P
At the moment I am fine with this setup and still can handle my projects with 1.5GB RAM.

Cya,
ChrisVis

Nice to read both your experiences :D

With the really crazy low temperatures... recently an expert on cooling installations told me not to go below when wanting to avoid condensation risk. I want to stilck with 20 degrees on airco installation and might also go for min. 20 degrees on watercooling. Sounds sensible to use 'normal'(for human) room temperature in general as a basic temp, no?

This thread is..so good =) don't stop this discussion Guys =)

Chris, that watercooled expander is simply the best piece I've seen so far,
no "needless bling", just heavy duty machine! Inspiration to say the least!

Chris,

Could you share a photo/link to your build. I am curious how the expander looks with water.
