hey!
that should work - just be aware that if your 580 has 1 gb Vram and the others have 3GB the maximum size of your scene is 1gb if the 580 takes part.
the card with lowest vram participating is setting the max-size of the scene you can render.

have a nice day!

in my rig i have running three of those new 6gb gtx780 (zotac) cards now atm... so i could add a 4th card i guess (?)...
i have an old unused computer in my basement with a gtx 580 in it... is it possible to simply place this card also in my rig and it just "adds" his (compared few) cuda cores for rendering? or is it just slowing down the other cards then?
it depends on the mother board, if You have an available pcie socket to conect extra card & enough juise to feed Your system (more than 1200W) then You could add 580. It will not slow rendering at all, actually You can hope for about 15% increase in speed, but if the card would sit in let's say 4x overall loading times might be bit longer. Now because 580 has 3gb, if You use all cards together the available vram will only be 3gb as scene should fit all the cards. If you disable it =) theen You'll see all 6gb.
