We are finding the same problem, GPUs on slaves are only working 50% of the time. GPUz shows a sawtooth profile.

Even after 10 minutes we find it remains on 50% of the time. So I would assume this should well past the warmup period.

I've actually rendered around 15min or so.
Maybe that's somehow related to scene??? =)

It would be nice to find the cause. Otherwise hooking expander box connected via PCIe might be more economical (even if You spend like twice the amount compared PC box) & more convenient (as that would introduce no lag, no performance drop) then having extra (cheaper) render slave.

Well done Glimpse... as soon as I get my 2.0 Im gonna give this a shot

Hey, Peter.

Feel free to join =)

I think the topic whether "to build a slave or not" is going to be intersting for a lot of guys here =)

I have no idea why this 12card limit exist (I can only start guesing, but that would only be my unedjucated guesses =) - let's wait for some more info, as it will unfold (probably devs are all very bussy now - I haven't seen such activity in a forum for a while =)

12 card limit? this is not cool. so when i have 1x gtx 680 as master and three 4x780 pcs one of the cards is not working? 12...

regarding net rendering, its really the lan speed. i had one pc with 500Mbit wlan and it was very slow and had same issues.

we got some great news:

"We are working on a number of different options for network rendering in the coming months:
1) Cheaper node license (especially if you are not using standalone and just want a render node)
2) High end network version of OR that can support unlimited render nodes over 10GE boxes designed for render farms. This will be identical to the Cloud Edition we have shown off in the past."

So, I guess we need to look for better lan solutions if network rendering is on a list =)
at least we know that it's not OR, but hardware relatesd issue =)

I'm not surprised at all about this:
I learnt a while ago when Dual-N wifi came out that even with repeaters at every corner of the building the speed of network intensive tasks on wifi would always be sub-par: so now my workstations, NAS, $200 media server are all on gigabit, and wifi is for the other junk: devices, phones, etc.
wifi = consumers (unless you have a seriously top-end wireless network setup)
Gigabit = business
The difference on gigabit for any implementation of network service is not comparible.

p.s. my Wifi is now a 1500 whatever, and large transfers are still slower to my laptop from any of the wired machines.

Plus: Wired is usually FAR cheaper to set up - provided you can run some cables around (or have them installed if you own your house)

Prehabitat, agree with You completely =)

In this case I just wanted to make a point & check how Octane's network rendering cope on low-end lan with low-end machines (if someone would make a dicition to use extra computing power at home =)

In profesional environment wired Gbit is I'd say a must =)
& in these days it doesn't cost much at all..

cheers

Gidday Glimpse,
I am chomping at the bit to try the network rendering on the two machines I have.
I've been swamped so bad I have not even opened 2.0 yet.

Appreciate all the info.

I'll chime in as soon as I get her hooked up.

Well this distributed rendering is a very big deal for us here. Been waiting for this. We've managed to get it working somewhat. It seems to cap out at 11 cards though. Has anyone else noticed this? Anyone else get it to render with more than 11 GPU's? BTW, this is using the C4D plugin.

Thanks!
