I agree Martin,
Each graphic card generation performance goes up by 25-30% or so and thats about every 9 months. After 3 years speeds should be 2.5-3x what they are today for the same money.
Unless you absolutely need the 3gb or 6gb space and slightly more robust engineering its probably not sensible to buy anything other than top end gaming cards. If you want you can upgrade down the line and still save money.

But why we not wish Octane 2.3.8 or 2.4 had vram combining feature. So you can use all vram of your cards. Or later share ram with CPU. So ram is no more a issue cause you can use 8 to 12GB of normal ram. Next year may be?
On other hand Nvidia'd just lower the price for 460 and 470 so for me 2 or 3x 470 now is a good choice now. They cut the price of 470 with big slash and now only $260-240. What a good news and x580 only got 2GB ram.

I wouldnt mind if Octane eventually could use my ram, cpu... everything. Anything to get my rendertime down. And also i need to be able to work at the same time as rendering so a 90% function would be nice. (I might be getting a cheap 8400... maybe. Not sure if it will work with the mb
)
