Hi, as you can read in my post, this version uses direct lighting / ambient occlusion by default for previewing,
which is much faster and is always as fast, making it much better for scene navigation/preview/editing.

it's however not unbiased and there is no global illumination.
change the 'directlighting' to 'pathtracing' type kernel node in the preview render target configuration to switch to full 'unbiased' mode for your final renders.

* built in material previewing

when you click on a material node,
you see the octane material ball and can tune your material on it.

This works for textures too.
I can not find :oops:

Hi all,

Just mentioning there's an issue reported a few times where you material pick an object and it turns black.
I will provide another update friday which fixes this issue.
This is why this is not an 'official' release, but something to get people using linux going.

Does anyone have problems with specular material?

Yup, I encountered that one. I picked another material and made a slight change to it and everything came back. What settings in Blender should you set to make Octane recognize it as Specular. I have just been changing it after I import in my Scene.
This new version is astounding. The scene I am fiddling with was taking about 20 minutes previously, now its done in around 7. Stuning work Gentlemen! :D Bravo!!

Actually there is more than the materials picker glitch. Agreed when rendering the demo scenes [spaceships or chess] or very small [under 100MB scenes] Octane is rendering very fast and even the mesh node inspector moves much quicker than before [but still jerky]. But I am trying a scene now that has 483794 Triangles and 363MB/1023MB Mem Used and the left materials pane is completely unresponsive - you cannot navigate it at all [no crashes though]. Also I noticed that when you get the black out glitch as mentioned above, and you look at the memory used it completely changes. For example the scene using 363MB when it goes black then changes to 120MB used out of the 1023MB total, almost as if a big portion of the textures that were loaded in memory have now been cleared out. I have also noticed when picking certain Camera Responses that a setting of the Exposure anything less than middle on the slider renders the whole scene black as well.
