Don't get me wrong NEWLOGIC, I am not blaming you lol... I'm having a hard time too to make HDR lighting without noise. Can't wait to try the importance sampling, I have seen very good comparisons on the Otoy facebook page.
There is also a feature I would like very much, but I don't know if it's up to the octane engine team or the maya plugin.
It would be very useful if we could have a local LiveDB version cached in our computer. My computer is always offline except for registering updates, it needs to be offline but I would like to use the LiveDB library.

those octane rendered images from the Otoy facebook page look so realistic(especially the one with human face),must admit i was really impressed.For a second,I even thought it was someone's picture taken by camera )) But so far, it's a great tool for rendering models in standalone version, let's hope soon we could breathe life into those models and render them in HDR environment using the octane plugin in Maya )) Thanks to Jimstar for doing really important work.
Lack of UI feature for Octane nodes: there is no Extra Attributes layout, so when I add custom attributes I get some problems with arrangement of the controls.

I found some bugs in emission node:
- When I change geometry type to Movable proxy or Scatter, Octane considerably reduces the intensity of light.
- I try to control emission attribute (in my case Power) with expression. When I try to delete expression connected to Octane Emission node (rightclick attr or in Hypershade), Maya deletes the Emission node too.

Jimstarr - is it possible to have the animation : camera mode also update keyframed variables for the camera?
IE i have key framed the max samples override but I have noticed the camera mode didn't update when rendering from the command line. It would be greatly efficient to have the camera mode update all the variables contained for the camera.

I have found something very basic NEWLOGIC. If you're using 32 bit HDRIs (exr, hdr), make sure you set the gamma of the octaneimagetexture to 1 instead of the default 2.2. It will clean a LOT of the noise very fast. You can validate that you are in the right gamma value by checking "keep environment" in the render settings and make a quick render of the hdr in your viewport. (I'll post this into your other thread too for the search function of the forum).
Hi! I'm trying to batch render an animation with some (animated) paint fx converted to polys. Everything works fine when I launch an IPR or a render frame, but it seems octane has some issues with the UVs of my paint fx, as shown in the MayaRenderLog.txt. When I hide the paintfx the batch render works.
