I can totally see where Octane Render is worth the investment. It is a great product and the future of rendering. Once I get a better video card, I'm sure I will be able to unleash the power of Octane. I messed around with direct lighting a little bit more, and was able to get some great results in the 8-15 minute range on my gts450.
I figured out how to import an environment hdr, although I haven't been successful to get a clear plane that can cast shadows.

I do have a couple questions though.
Can you offer your 3ds max material's for download through your website.
Some of us leave our computers offline for security virus reasons. Connecting to the live
database is a bit of a hassle.
Which Geforce 6xx Series is worth the investment as of right now, and in the near future??
-660 SLI,
-660ti,
-or the 670?
Especially if it is going to be used between octane, and games.
5xx series for me is not an option.
Thanks again everyone for all the help.

What am I missing here??!

Hi Leblanc,
I would go with the 670. The 660ti is a very close second. 660 SLI is probably not the best idea, it is far better to have a single more powerful card. If not only because you can double your power at a later time. Also for renders that don't need a lot of VRAM you can even enable both the 450 and 670 (if your motherboard and PSU can take both).
Thanks
Chris.

Agreed, play with the roughness on the tires - increasing it will give a better rubber look. (unless you are going for the polished tyre look!)The latest render is a vast improvement.
Thanks
Chris.
You cannot expect wonders from Octane.
Like any other Render engine it needs experience to get good, realistic results.
No matter what hardware you use!!!!
My first rendering with Octane was that
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... cia#p59772
- Done on my laptop with a GT 425M that has 96 Cuda cores (instead of 192 like the GTS 450)
- Resolution 2560 x 1600
- Rendered in 1h 50min.
- The settings were more or less default (i had no idea about the settings)
- + Experience!
Your last picture looked WAY better than the first one!
So keep on trying, and the more you experiment the better you get...
