I would actually like them to stick with .obj until v2 but I am biased because I've just about got a functional .obj exporter for Solidworks up and running :) its not an integrated plugin though ;)
Perhaps the instancing code and translation, scale, rotation requires the new format?
With the ownership change though I think it would be good idea for Otoy to declare some goals/constants out until v2 just so everyone knows where we are going and approx. when after 2 years of mayhem.
As Lionel points out it was back 6 mths ago that the new file format was mentioned....you can't expect people to actively participate in coding when the delivery time is so indeterminate or things never eventuate
Honestly I will be a bit annoyed if they suddenly ditch .obj but I suppose Lionel will be annoyed it they don't.
What ever the situation I hope it gets sorted in the next few months and the business side of Octane stabilises. :geek:

Dear Matej / Lionel,

Just been looking deeper into the node thing. I now understand what you mean. There's too much flexibility in the node system to duplicate all this in blender...

I also realised I've missed out a bit here. The nodes are indeed very powerful! Thanks for this, I've been using Octane on and off, perhaps it can be a bigger part of my workflow now. I can really see myself using this more and getting better results (texture mixing especially!)

Thanks!
