Is the "one object" workflow a temporary thing? It seems very contrary to the way anyone that works in 3D production. I think in the end, a better connection to the user's different chosen softwares would be great, and really is the thing that's sorely missing in Octane. I know it might not be possible to get into the plugin business, but at least something to link us better to our workflows, if only in a vague way. The Collada export should help with this, right?

well, the whole node based system will become more powerfull in beta3.
once we have support for instances, then you'll be able to create weird and wondrous things using nodes with multiple objects and transform nodes etc...

Indeed before we have support for instances (which we don't have yet), you can only view one OBJ at a time,
so just export everything that you want to render to one OBJ file.

Regarding the camera navigation, we're working on improving this in the next update, but if you can be a bit more specific and give us more information why it's difficult that would help us improve it...

What if instances aren't what i'm after, lets say i have a city scene with huge number of unique buildings, each with about 10-20 materials. Can you imagine how hard it would be to manage a scene like that? It would easier to if each building can be imported in as a separate mesh imo.

yeah but we need the foundation of instances to manage rendering multiple/separate objects with they're own transforms.
this is planned for beta3.
