Hi all.
I am curious if a GPU can essentially crash, requiring a reboot to free its memory back up? I have a file that was working, then all of a sudden it fails to render after I relaunch Octane. Also, CUDA Preferences says that the geometry is taking up about a third more memory as it should. If I relaunch Octane and don't load anything yet, Prefs says that there is no geometry taking up space, which is what it should be saying. Basically, I am thinking that the obj is corrupt somehow and that the GPU is not having problems. But I am also curious about GPU behavior in general, and whether or not a GPU can lose track of onboard resources and simply not work until reboot?

Hm, this is interesting.
Maybe this is common sense to others, but in order to create what I felt was the best cooling option for both GPUs in my case I had put my 260 in the bottom, 2nd slot (hooked up to my monitor), and put my 560 up above in the first slot. Originally, I wondered whether this would be a problem putting the non-monitor card in the bottom slot, but it seemed to work great all week, so I left it as is. That is, until today when I encountered the Octane problem discussed in my first post. So I tried rebooting, and my system would never make it to POST. Soooooo, then I thought, maybe it has to do with the card order thing after all, and I changed the order...260 in top slot and connected to monitor...560 down below to be used only by Octane. System came right up and Octane loaded the file with no issues and it is rendering fine as we speak.
So looks like the obj file was fine, but my hardware configuration was messed up.
Has anyone encountered something similar.

Yah, that was weird. I suppose I'll have to wait to see if it happens again. But it sounds like it could be two issues then instead of one...card in wrong slot to work with POST, and driver issue when running a gpu render.
