I purchased the plugin for 3DS Max but find myself using the export to Octane instead because of the lack of materials available in Max.
I need to do a lot of quick stills and don't have time to do a lot of material work. Having a good procedural material creator in Max would make all the difference.
Even in Octane the material library is limited, but at least it is something.
I have Darktree which is great but the materials it creates aren't compatible with Octane. It would be nice to see Refractive focus on building a comprehensive and easy to use procedural toolkit for Max that has a good visual interface (Like Darktree or Genetica).
Are many others finding that they use the exporter for this reason or am I going about things in the wrong way?
Are many using export to Octane instead of Max plugin?

Hi, i also purchased the 3ds max plugin and i find myself using only the standalone version...
i thought that with the plugin i would work more efficiently and faster but i find that working with the standalone its faster and easier for me... even if i have to re-import if i need to change something...
well at least for still images i think the standalone is better...
also when i try to render big resolution images in 3ds max the render screen turns black and does nothing... and when i import the scene to the stand alone i can render in that resulution and bigger...
maybe someone of the rs team can help me with this?
another thing that i dont like about the pluging (i dont know if its a bug or not) is when i try to calibrate the values for reflection, bump, roughness, etc. the stupid max system rounds my number vaules!!! and since some values need a lot of decimal places ( like 0.0001 or 0.0025 or so) its just very annoying that max dont show all the numbers needed...
is anyone there having the same issues?

I wish there was a way to use both, and they could play together. They are both very powerful and compliment each other. I hope to use them in tandem.
I have asked several times on the forum if there is a plan to support octane materials when exporting from max, or if there are plans for an Octande file export from max, but no repsonse.
Would love to know if this is not possible, or not a priority, or both?

if the plugin is an intention of being the whole software, so shouldnt have gaps. Thats why i bought.. because i wouldnt have to learn another software.

No.. u got me wrong..
I know 3D max.
I bought the plugin version because its integrated with the software i use.
I cant wait to use all the features (like online materials) from standard octane edition.

My English sometimes is not good, I misunderstood you.
I think about online materials. But It is not easy to implement.
