Hi there, I've found a problem with linked objects when exported to octane. If you create a model, do a linked copy of it and apply a simetry (scale one axis -1) in blender the object when edited looks ok, it's normals are fine, but if you export it to octane and apply an specular material you can see that it's normals are flipped, I've tried yoyoz exporter and the internal one, both shed the same results.

I don't know if,
a- I'm doing something wrong (I'm quite new to blender, and even thou there is tons of info and tutorials I might be missing something important)
b- It's an exporter problem, and then you guys can help me.
c- It's a blender bug (I haven't found any official bugs or complains about it, so I doubt it, but who knows)

I've attached a picture with 3 cubes, the middle one is the "original" one, the right one is a duplicate (shift+d) and the right one is a linked duplicate (alt+d) with an scale on the y axis of -1, the 3 of them share the same specular material as shown.

Anyway, thanks for any help, and I have to say that along with Octane, Blender is my most beloved new toy! (work tools are those you only want to see on work hours, toys are those you can work with AND have fun at any other time also ;P)

Hm, never had such a situation but you could try to recalculate normals and/or flip it.
Switch on view of normals.

Cheers, mib.

Thanks mib2berlin but if I do that, since it's a linked duplicate it does the same in the original object, so the ones without simetry would have the wrong normals. I need both objects, so I guess in the meantime instead of linked I will have to use regular duplicates for the simetric ones

Are you using Blender lastest build from graphicall.org (with BMesh), or Blender official build?
I'm asking because of current BMesh problem with exporters (for discussion refer to http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 955#p81955 ).
