Very interesting subject, please continue..
GK you have a pretty good attitude towards your work, I like.
It's low times for everything, the other problem goes like this - I had a 99% chance to get a 3d job that took like 2 or 3 days to finish, and all the other companies landed with about 2 thousand euros job proposals, I landed cheaply with a thousand euros - and then this architecture student applied with a 250 euro proposal for the job and got it ofcourse - and I wanted to dayrape this guy, he just refused at least 500 euros simply because he felt he wasn't worth more, he is doing damage to his job because if you don't think it's worth it, than nobody else will, and the general public is underminig their job because of that.. People simply think, "oh, look, this geek there is playing and doing 3d, look at the guy, how difficult can that be, I could probably do that if I had a day or two to learn.." ..

very interesting advice, but how to get client who want to pay more?
I am from Indonesia and doing rendering for local people (Indonesia) only cost 50-150 USD per render.
any advice?

... and then, if the real work has to be done, they sit there for 5 days in a row, 20hrs a day just to get it done, and all that for 250 eurosacc24ex wrote:I landed cheaply with a thousand euros - qnd then this architecture student applied with a 250 euro proposal for the job and got it ofcourse - and I wanted to dayrape this guy, he just refused at least 500 euro simply beacause he felt it wasnt worth more, he is doing damage to his job because if you don't think it's worth it, than nobody else will, and the general public is underminig the render job.. Hi to everyone. First post here
I'm an architect too, always been interested with 3Ds and playing around with MAX, making still images and short animations, since I was in college, until my current employment for an architectural firm. Often in the abstract side of things, with CEL shaders and very heavy photoshop post-processing. Octane is my last toy, the whole GPU rendering thing is fascinating and I've started making photorrealistic images, just training for myself. Model in Sketchup.
The construction industry is collapsing (definitively here in Ireland) and I need a escape plan. Builders always scared me anyway
You all guys work in different industries in very different countries... In your opinion, how easy would it be for a person like me to adapt to the CGI industry, in general? I obviously have an eye for design, and savings to survive a couple of years acquiring the technical tools and know-how to be competitive. My base of contacts is small at the moment, only architects, and related.
From what I've been reading, most of you guys are freelance and do animations for advertising companies, and interior shots (for interior designers I suppose)?
