anyone programming in vb.net or ever used C++/C#/vb to change a program's memory? I do the research using cheatEngine but eventually want to build a tool that will do it all by itself, for windows at least. i'm using vb.net through the windows API to change the camera position X for example, and nothing happens... mind if i attach some code? :D

i don't know if it's the right place to do it...

Code: Select all

Dim newValue As Single = cameraYbox.Value
Dim bytes() As Byte = BitConverter.GetBytes(newValue)
        WriteProcessMemory(procHandle, New IntPtr(&H728C178), bytes, 4, 0)
Only change the camera position doesn´t work.
You must refresh the scene, then it works. Also search for the refresh bit, which is 3 or 4 bytes before the bytes, where the running samples are stored.

An other problem can be, that you don´t have debug privileges.
I hasn´t the problem because I started self the Octane process with the plugin.
But if you want to change the memory from a process which is not start from your programm, I think then you need the debug privileges.

i changed camera position with CheatEngine and it really moved, without refreshing i get this blending effect between the 2 frames, the new one renders on top of the previous, but it still worked in cheatEngine, but through vb, writing to the same camera address the new position really does nothing, i wonder what i'm doing wrong... i'll try changing memory values of another prog to see what happens.

Is this software also a stand alone or only possible with Max and Blender?

So I just have to pay 2/3 of what I payed for Octane to get a memory injection hack and a Blender exporter that doesn´t even has a feature description and a developer that shrouds himself in darkness and mystery.

Sounds like a no buy to me - I rather buy another Octane beta license to ensure development funding.

actually since its launch i m contacting with the developer and he is helping us for a LW export..
He sounds very sincere and helpful.. I do not think there is mystery going on there..

He was wise enough to answer an urgent need for all archviz video renderers.

I am surprised with the negativity. For someone doing visualizations it is a great deal. It might cost half the price of Octane, but if you could use it to earn money it isn't expensive at all. Even if the things it offers will be done by Octane itself someday, buying this tool you buy yourself time using them NOW. I would gladly use the features it offers, but i can afford to wait. Not doing any work that demands them. It's a tool that offers much needed functionality, and, simply put, if i needed it to complete a job faster, i would buy it this instant. I for one admire the initiative of the developers, even if i don't think it was a great business decision for them to make it, if it was made for profit. The way i see it, this was a labour of love and the right tool in the right time for many people, i don't expect them to make a fortune selling it.

Yet!

Anyway.I don't see the problem. If you have a client that needs a movie then just load the bill with the extra 30-60 euro's for the animation. Then just continue using it till the Octane version appears.

Simple really.
