I cant get nice smooth reflections for this type of fluid geometry. Looks like it can not interpolate the normals.
See render and attached orbx.

I had a look at the scene and the normals are interpolated. If you disable "smooth" in the material you can see how it looks like with no normal interpolation.PolderAnimation wrote:I cant get nice smooth reflections for this type of fluid geometry. Looks like it can not interpolate the normals.

That it's not smooth enough is because of the mesh quality itself. You can clearly see that when you enable the wireframe AOV and the geometric and smooth normal AOVs.

I agree that the geo is not super smooth. But Octane does renders it quite hard, if you look at Mantra for example it is way nicer interpolated (see attachment).abstrax wrote:I had a look at the scene and the normals are interpolated. Also with higher roughness you can see that mantra has way smoother and nicer interpolation.

I understand that you can find work arounds. But this is something octane isn't doing very well if you look at other renders. Just trying to help to get Octane better.promity wrote:I usually use in such cases OpenSubDiv function.

Looking at the last two images I would say the geometry that is being rendered in Mantra is different to the one in Octane. Maybe (just a guess) the vertex normals get lost at some point and then are recreated from the mesh? But I am not sure where things get screwed up.PolderAnimation wrote:I agree that the geo is not super smooth. If you could give me a rundown of how and where the geometry is being created and what the steps are to get to the Mantra render and which steps were taken to make the Octane render?

Hello
The node Geometry Exporter crash the OctaneRender StandAlone application, when selecting export materials.
Tried with different models and project and the result is the same.
Also should be best if texture export has an option to not resize and leave as it is.
Without the geometry exporter there is no way to export an scene with textures from StandAlone in an standard format
Thanks

Thanks for the report, I'll look at it.mrfactory wrote:Hello

hi there!
after reinstall win10 on myrenderclient-workstion ( with 4 RTX-2080TI cards)
i am not able to run my octane-renderslave again
it always starts with this errormessage ( see the attache link please! )
i did not changed anything to my licence
,working with C4D R20 and 1 rendernode)
i only use this setup only ( dont work and render with the OCR-standalone)
but now there is no rendernode listed in C4D
[attachment=1]license_error.jpg[/attachment
as it was before without any issue
so there have to be one free renderslave-license
as it was all the years before with my enterprise-licence
i do need this renderslave very urgent because the slave runs with 4 RTX 2080TI card
and i have a tight deadline.
did change otoy anything "over night" with my current enterprice-license?
i have no idea what is going wrong right now and why there is no renderslave-licence
available any longer which i can run and use on my rendernode-workstaion.
thanks a lot in advance fo´r your help

ok , changing the rendernode-workstation-name and unlock/lock one more time more ( the latest win10-installation was completly crashed, that was the reason for
reinstalling Win10 pro too) fixed the issue.
so i think to avoid "issues" like this i will switch to a hardware-dongle solution right now...
does otoy supports
eLicenser Control Center - Lizenzmanagement
https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/de/a ... management
and/or
https://www.ilok.com/#!home
?
that would be great! both solutions are rock solid safe and ease to use in my opinion!
i use both of them for so many years for any ofmy usb-dongle-licences
cheers
