That comes from the Nested dielectric settings that is enabled by default, when loading an old scene..
It should be disabled in this case.

It will be disabled by default for old scenes, in next release.

I post this here too..just in case:

i think it's a bug... with opacity/alpha map.. i am doing feathers mapped into planes..
even if the alpha map is not touching the edges.. this happen the same..

would you check?

Hi There

i've been using this version for almost two weeks and i've noticed a couple of things that have gotten worse.

1 - material editor very slow everytime you select any new material. the hole systems freezes for 10 seconds.
2 - after rendering (with denosining on) in octane Viewport 3ds max usually crashes. it gets the render done but usually it crashes afterwards

are you planing to realease another version soon?

also

3 - the grouping of the maps in material editor is confusing and cumbersome. faster before (maybe this is causing part of the slower matrerial editor?)

I also got some Render Fails after completion. I open the error log but it is empty. It doesn't disturb my work but its strange.

Why does Forest Pack object rendered BLACK in OctaneRender_VR_for_3ds_Max_2020.2.3_-_11.09?
The material and update and everything regarding Forest was working fine in version OctaneRender_VR_for_3ds_Max_2020.2_-_11.05!

Could you please take a look??

Thank you for your scene.
11.09 seems to work same as 11.05..
I noted the use of Forest color, that is not well supported..
You might get different results with 'On-the fly Material conversion' on or off, (Octane Preferences, tab 'Material') and when disabled, the 'Use Color for object with no material' might gives more colors than with the conversion, but won't match what you expect for Forest color..

I'm note sure why you get black colors .. you can try Preferences / Preset menu : Reset default settings..

Hi imanshirani,

It seems to work.
If the object is not set as Movable proxy, you may need to press the Update render geometry for the change to take effect in the viewport..

Here is a sample with Movable proxy enabled:
