Hi all
With all this time on my hands right now its allowing to to get stuck in more to octane but also coming up against issues that need remedies.
Im rendering out glass but am getting quite a bit of noise in the texture. I've upped the denoiser but its still occurring as you can see from my screen shot.
Does anyone have any good remedies for this type of thing?
Thanks

What are your render settings?
Do you have adaptive sampling enabled?

Thanks niestudio. No i havent got adaptive sampling turned on, should I for this type of render? Looking at the settings for AdapSamp. are there any recommended settings for this? Or just go with default?

For adaptive, I have found the defaults to be sufficient. I never change them.

Hi
Im still trying to deal with this noise issue. Im attaching my file with textures etc and screen shots showing my render settings but I cant get the noise to go from the glass. Does anyone know how to get rid of this sort of thing? Have I just got to render it for hours and hours before it will go or should there be a setting im missing?
Ive also looked at the model and checked things like the normals and cant see any problems there. Any help on this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't have a chance to look, but do you have fake shadows enabled on the transparency? Also, to debug, try a solid background and see if you still get the noise. It might have something to do with texture sampling on that background.

Hi jayroth. Thanks again :-)

Yes Im pretty sure fake shadows is enabled and yes you're right I think it does have something to do with the background too. Saying that though surely there must be a way to render with this sort of background in place without getting all this strange noise and artefacts? I cant believe octane render isn't capable of dealing with this sort of thing? Or am I wrong?

I suggested that you temporarily disable the background that you are using to determine if that is where the noise is coming from. If that is indeed the culprit, then look at what is creating that texture. Is it an image map or a noise generator?

In terms of lighting your scene, if you are using Octane lights, you can increase the amount of samples for the light which can help clean up the noise.

In Render Settings, if you are using Path Tracing, you can control the amount of overall scene samples, but you can also tune that a little, but adjusting the specular depth, diffuse depth and scatter depth, The defaults in many of these settings are on the high side, but playing with them can help you to dial in the look.

I tend to use a filter size of 1.5; it is a good compromise of filtering to sharpness, and close resembles the results you would get from film. I like that, as I come from a motion picture background.

Take the GI clamp down to either 5 or 10. I have found that you never really notice any difference in values beyond those numbers.

Another tip, you can look at the noise pass in the Live View window. It is green to gray, and can show you where the noise resides. This can help you to track down the major cause of the noise.

Noise mitigation is just one of the things that you have to deal with in these rendering engines. None are perfect, and it helps to invest some time into learning about the best way of diagnosing and addressing the problem. The AI denoiser does a good job quite often and might be worth a try in your case.
