Does anyone have like a tutorial on how do use daz skin textures with the new random walk or a general tutorial as to how it works? I can't seem to find one.

Hi Sorel,

Take a look at viewtopic.php?f=33&t=72997&p=371612&hil ... lk#p371612. To implement something similar under DAZ, you can set up 2 Diffuse Nodes (with Mix Material ) - one with Sheen and one with Specular layer to emulate the layer group node with Specular and Sheen on that post. The OP did it with one Diffuse node, we under Daz will need to use 2 Diffuse with Mix Material to achieve similar result. Plug in the Random Walk SSS node to both the Diffuse nodes' Medium Pin.

So doing the setup, I think I like it? Probably need more fine tuning since daz characters dont really come with proper maps. This is with Owen character/texture. light is an single ring light HDR in different positions.

Looks good Sorel. Yup, you probably need to fine tune it. Also try on a darker and lighter skin. That way you will know if one setting works for all 3 types or you need to keep 3 sets for the three types of skin tones. Sheen / highlights on darker skin will be more visible than on lighter skin so may need to be adjusted a bit accordingly.

May i ask what density and radius values you used here? :)

Density was around 350-400

radius I used a pinkish color, hue was around 20-30

With the recent bugfixes in RC3 i startet experimenting with random walk again. First test show still problems with hotpixels. (not really visible in this scene setup)
Shadersetup: 2 Universal materials (diffuse transmission type) with a specular layer (Type thin) with random walk. Density values are 200 and 500. Both materials mixed with a custom made map to have lower density on areas like ears and nose tip (map has to be adjustet to include earlobes and nostrils better).
Still needs more adjustments especially the specular handling, but i think it is a good starting point.

PT -> GJ Clamp 50.000
I adjusted the colors for the radius. I can try to find the colors again where it appeared.
