I recently got a new Dell Xps 15 9570, its a great computer and works fine with my egpu with a thunderbolt connection. But now im planning to setup my desktop and use it for network rendering. only problem is that the notebook doesnt have
an ethernet port. Ive been looking at adapter both usb 3 and usb c to ethernet, but the speeds are 1000 mbs, would this be sufficient? My scenes are not that texture heavy. Optimal would be to use one of the usb 3 ports, so I still can utilize the egpu.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Octane Network rendering prefers a cable connection, so a gigabit ethernet adapter is surely better and more stable than a wifi connection.

As I understand it, USB C and Thunderbolt can both technically support gigabit speeds, so a1000 mbs ethernet adapter should be fine, if that's what you are actually getting. Be careful, though, as lots of devices are advertised as "compatible" while not offering the same performance. A USB 1 hub is "compatible with USB 2 and 3, but that doesn't mean it can support their throughput. My limited understanding is that Thunderbolt has more wiggle room than USB 3, so there's less chance of a bottleneck throttling. If you go that rout, I suggest buying something from a respected manufacturer, like the Akitio T3-10G.
