Hello guys,

I want to have your experience feedback about buying a 3d model online.

I work on c4d, use octane (obviously), and when i browse websites like turbosquid i see plenty of nice models that i wish i could buy and use.

Few of them are native c4d files and i almost never saw some rendered with octane.

Could you explain more about the good workflow when buying online models for use with c4d/octane ? what format is best ? what should i pay attention most ? which file format is best to import ? etc

Thanks all !

Unfortunatelly, Octane is not so popular with people creating models for sale.
I found only few of them "Octane Ready".

I always stick to C4D models. Or fbx if C4D are not available. In the end you have .obj files which are a standard for every 3D software.

After that I just texture it myself. What is good is fact that I practice materials creation and prepare my own presets for the future projects.

Thank you very much Slepy8 for your one and only answer.
You just confirmed my thoughts ~
By the way I bought a medel recently, it was c4d ready and octane converted the materials pretty well automatically.

I basically buy models knowing that I'm 90% in it for the mesh.

USUALLY the UV mapping translates right and linking up textures is a snap, but sometimes it messes up. And I've had the mesh itself be a little messed up on an FBX import (on the character's face! that's important) ... it was a cheap model though.

You will basically always be doing some tinkering to varying degrees to get the textures how you want them in Octane, unless there's an Octane version provided, or if it's native to C4D you'll have better luck.

Usually I'll go for models that have a C4d or FB model with textures then just do a Octane material conversion and its worked out for me everytime.

Like the others I'll usually just buy something for the mesh so OBJ, or FBX is fine. Even if the textures are usable, I find that I like to change them for my use, they're almost always too low res for my kind of work but that's OK, texturing is the fun part anyway!
