Hi,
I'm using Octane for Rhino and I'm really impressed with it. Simple, fast ad powerful. But since I started to study Octane I have 2 questions about materials.

1 - Some parameters like Brightness, (Colour correction node), Bump, Normals are set 1 as default. So I'm not able to increase these parameters. Yes, there is Multiplier node but isn't simple to have a wide range above 1 instead to have another node (Multiplier)?
2 - When I have to simulate translucently and glossy materials like leaves Octane need 2 material with Mix node (one glossy and a diffuse with translucency). But in this way (with the percentage of the two materials) I can't get a 100% glossy and 100% translucency, or I'm wrong?

This is not a criticism but I only need to understand the way Octane works.

Thanx in advance.

Fabrizio

Hi fabrizio.
1. as you can see from the following screenshot, in Standalone you can increase some values higher then the max default value of 1, so I think that your issue is specifically related with the Rhino plugin. Better to ask in the proper section.

2. For one side material like leaves, better to use a mix between glossy and diffuse with transmission, as you said, and if you need more glossy effect you can increase the Index value, while with transmission, you have to increase the power with a color correction node, but this seems not to work in the Rhino plugin due at the above limitation.
With a mesh with volume, better to use a single specular material with medium node, as described in this other post:

Happy rendering,

Hi Beppe and thanx for you suggestions.

2 - Yes you are right, when I wrote "translucency" I meant "transmission" :-)
Anyway, I don't understand why not to insert this parameter in glossy material...

bye
