I need to render an object in Octane that was initially rendered in Vray and it's about 1200 copies in a cloner. The object itself is very simple, just a thin torus with very few segments.

I get errors and crashes. Especially cuda error 700 and 719. I can only render it out when going lower, around 200-300 is the limit before it crashes. There is no problem with vram, as it is only using around 500mb or so. Render instances is turned on.

I have 2x 980 ti and 3x 1080. I tried rendering it in different setups using only the 980ti and only the 1080 but the result is still the same. My computer crashes really hard.

I can't share the scene as I am under NDA for this project. But it's really simple like I mentioned. I would hate to have to go back to Vray because it is so much slower and I will lose a lot of time. Is it just limitations within Octane or is it my hardware?

recently, abstrax has found a bug about instances that will he solved in the next version:

Which version of c4doctane are you using exactly?
Is it possible for you to export the clones in one single poly object?
It shouldn't be to huge, I hope :roll:

Hi Beppe,

Thanks for your reply! I am using 3.05.3

I could try doing that but it kind of defeats the purpose because I am using this cloner in a animation and I need to be able to control all parameters.

Should I try 3.06 test build and see if it works. Or do I have to wait for the stable version?

Can confirm it works fine as one poly object. But still defeats the purpose which is a shame!

Hi diftype,
could you try to set the geometry engine to Send all scene data, instead of auto or manual mode, probably you have an higher time per frame, but it should work, I hope.

I just tried it, resulted in computer freeze and had to manually restart. Tried it again and can still only go to around 300 clones before it crashes. I guess I will have to go back to Vray or find some other fix. Hope there is a fix for this in the next version!
