Hi All

Sometimes I have to go away and only take my laptop with me which is not capable of rendering Octane as the GPU does not support it.
I know that Otoy are building an Octane Cloud service, but does anyone know if there is a good solution at the moment before Octane Cloud Rendering is out.
Something along the lines of a cloud of GPUs that shows up as a local GPU on my laptop so I can run the Octane Preview as well as be able to do the final render.

Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks.

depending on Your Laptop a simple eGPU solution might work best =) for now till there's no ORC or ORE (OctaneRenderEngine). Simple Akition (~300$) + GPU + SFXL PSU (~100$) might do the trick giving You desktop performance even on pretty underpowered laptop (like thunderbolt capable mac).

these are mostly not done for GPUs as Thunderbolt too has some issues conecting GPUs - so it sort of workaround till Thunderbolt3. It works, but it's not liek officially supported. However if You happen to run MacOS & don't mind to have a bit of time testing/making it work..You should be able to run..I'm not sure about windows, as I haven't test those persoanlly, but on MAcOS thsi works pretty good - the only thing to be aware is specific version of OS & then supported cards..- with soem cards hastle is a bit too much to be jsutified, so do some research before sinking Your money =)

as for PC side of side of thigns.. think Razor is working on this CORE device that is going to be Thunderbolt3 powered from conectivity side of things. Out of the box this seems to work with selected AMD devices, but I gues nvidia device compatability is going to come with time =) hot plug & other thigns will be available as well (with current T2 based devises..simply unplug & You get hang/crash.. black screen with error). So, there are solution, but neither of those are perfect just yet. & as You see cloud/v3.x is not here to support renderign on non nvidia/cuda devices.

I think for now I am going to setup my PC to Wake on LAN and then log into it from wherever I am using Remote Desktop. Hopefully it will run fast enough to use properly.

From my testing Remote Desktop will disable your GPU drivers and Octane wont work remotely. However you can use VNC to do this and the drivers still stay engaged for Octane. Good luck!
