Hello,

can anyone explain why this stripe pattern appears in my displacementmap? I have this from time to time and it's not linked to the maps I use and appears randomly, often with small lights than aren't facing the camera completly.
I'd like to get rid of it. Any ideas?

Hard to be sure with your very small information. Please always post more details from your setup or post a scene.

But i bet for Ray epsilon. Also try your objects or materials on a isolated scene when you have issues.

It's a 8k displacementmap in 32bit open exr with no negative values, flat mapped onto a plane.
There's also bump but it seems not to influence the result since the "error" appears also with bump turned off.

I played a bit with ray epsilon, but it seems to have no effect.
Would it be possible to PN you the scene?

It's not same problem. Your texture is 8bit. It can't give high precision for heights. Try to use 16/32, especially 32bit images.

Ok Ithink to have resolved (thanks to Ahmet and Bepeg4d):

- I have to use 32 bit map,
- gray levels,
- blurred a bit
