I have a real challenge using spec materials, seems when i do if there is an object somewhat close to teh spec material i get lots of small reflective dots scattered all over the nearby obj, reducing Hot pix setting to 0 helps bu t not 100% i let one render go 20k passes and it never clears up, is there a way to use spec materials with out this causing issues ? Setting perhaps, I played with caustic blur but its not really doing much the spo t near the spec material just look awful

The "white dots" in your image are called fireflies and are a result of overpowered lights in your scene hitting specular surfaces.
Try lowering the power of your lights and increasing the exposure settings to get a visible scene, even under low lighting conditions.
In the "Settings" tab of OctaneRender you'll find the "Imager" node, where you can find "Hotpixel Removal" and "Caustic Blur".
Setting the Hotpixel removal to lower settings than 1 will reduce fireflies while degrading image quality (blurring it).
Better change the caustic blur to something in between 0.5 - 1.0. This will help with your situation a lot.

thanks T ill have a look at that, i had to remove the mesh lights completely to rid that issue out of the render. Dose Octane render nice with out HDRI and only mesh my experience with mesh lights has been awful so far.

You can get fairly decent renders with mesh lighting. I am not sure if im doing this right, using mesh lights, I have been creating spheres or planes then converting them to emitters, however I have to set the power to like .001 then crank exposer up to as high as 1500 to see anything… to get most but not all the hot pixels to go away is this how Octane works? Seems odd to me…
