I'm only using the student version at the moment but want to purchase the latest.

I think you have to purchase the standalone to then purchase the plug-in?? (looking at 3ds Max) - is the only advantage of buying the plug-in not having to export/import?

If you're a seasoned user - how much does the plug-in help you?

Thanks.

Hi,
you can buy the standale and the plugin in bundle with a discount ;)
Personally, I like to use both. The are a lot of advantages in working with an integrated plugin, especially when preparing, modelling and animating the scene with the real-time workflow. But when the scene becomes heavy, I like to switch to the standalone because of its minimalist approach and less resources needed for better concentration in the fine tuning ;)

200% standalone!

the workflow is fantastic to standalone, even when you import different file formats.

only thing is when you need a quick preview or moving things around, you need to export again which can take a few minutes (depending on cpu-power).

Personally it`s a great flow when standalone is rendering100% and you can still work further without any lags in 3dsmax

I spend about 10% of my time in plugins and 90% in Standalone. It's nice to work in different 3D modeling software and then export and combine the models in Standalone. I love the thing that you can have a pre made complex background scene for Standalone, and just load an object into that scene from what ever 3D modeling software package you pick and just have it ready to render in no time.

Q. on standalone version can it import all animation data, spacewarps, deformers, rigged characters etc from 3ds max or is stand alone just for still images?

I started with the regular Octane software and after bought a plug-in for modo.

I think this is good way to undarstand how Octane is working.

In some situations regular Octane is much comfortable for use. But in animation better plugin.

As for me regular Octane nodebased system very comfortable and flexible.
