There's nothing in the manual.
oh - and having progressive save activated, it would be cool if that would save other passes alongside with the beauty pass - or at least once on the final save

It's something you can use to turn off/on specific meshes when rendering - and render shadows from a specific layer. To do this, export from the plugin to OCS or ORBX format and open in Octane Standalone and change the render layers from there (you will need to add an Object Layer and Object Layer Map node to the Mesh node to assign a layer number to it). http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=44267oh - btw: what's the Rentertarget - Render Layer node good for?

This would mean saving as EXR - is this really what you want? EXR is not that convenient for quickly seeing what is in an image file. I had thought progressive save might be a thing of the past now that Octane is very robust.oh - and having progressive save activated, it would be cool if that would save other passes alongside with the beauty pass - or at least once on the final save
well, I use it regularly. first, I like the automatic naming with samples and time (I love to keep the specs of a render) and second, it's a nice possibility to check if I can stop a render before reaching the adjusted samples by checking the images via a network share from a different PC.face_off wrote:This would mean saving as EXR - is this really what you want? Thanks Uwe. I'm still not sure I understand the needs for progressive save of multi-layer EXR's. The Z-Depth, Material Id, and Object Id take a few seconds to render - so in the rare event of a system failure, couldn't you simply re-render these passes?the usual additions I find helpful regarding post work are Z-Depth, Material-ID and Object-ID. I was thinking of something like saving them as additionally PNGs with a suffix (like *_zdepth.png or *_matid.png) similar the way Vue does with render passes. but stuffing them into an EXR might be a solution, too. (have to check, if my ancient Photoshop version is capable of that format, tho, but I think it might)
simply laziness - and the fact I always forget to switch to the passes and save them manuallyface_off wrote:Thanks Uwe. yeah, that's what I usually remember right after closing the render windowaRtBee wrote:So, you just want Multi-pass / layered EXR as an intermediate, ongoing progress tracking tool? Because when you're fine, you only have to save EXR All Passes.
