oh - btw: what's the Rentertarget - Render Layer node good for?
There's nothing in the manual.

oh - and having progressive save activated, it would be cool if that would save other passes alongside with the beauty pass - or at least once on the final save :)

It's something you can use to turn off/on specific meshes when rendering - and render shadows from a specific layer. To do this, export from the plugin to OCS or ORBX format and open in Octane Standalone and change the render layers from there (you will need to add an Object Layer and Object Layer Map node to the Mesh node to assign a layer number to it). http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=44267

This would mean saving as EXR - is this really what you want? EXR is not that convenient for quickly seeing what is in an image file. I had thought progressive save might be a thing of the past now that Octane is very robust.

Below is the link to an experimental build - relevant for people doing animations.

2.23.2.53
- Fixed issue where selecting a material in the Poser Material room was multi-selecting in the plugin Materials tab
- Added the ability to link Greyscale Color and Float Value nodes to a Dial belonging to the Figure Body or Prop, for animation purposes. This does not save to the Poser Material (when you "Save Octane Nodes to Poser Material"). Copy and Paste nodes will paste the link, but exported, imported, etc will not transfer the dial links

Download the plugin from the following link:
- OctaneRender for Poser 2.23.2.53 (64 bit)

I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:

2.23.2.54
- Changing the linked dial combo box now instantly refreshes the Viewport

well, I use it regularly. first, I like the automatic naming with samples and time (I love to keep the specs of a render) and second, it's a nice possibility to check if I can stop a render before reaching the adjusted samples by checking the images via a network share from a different PC.
it's a very convenient function in my eyes, don't you dare to withdraw it! :D

the usual additions I find helpful regarding post work are Z-Depth, Material-ID and Object-ID. I was thinking of something like saving them as additionally PNGs with a suffix (like *_zdepth.png or *_matid.png) similar the way Vue does with render passes. but stuffing them into an EXR might be a solution, too. (have to check, if my ancient Photoshop version is capable of that format, tho, but I think it might)

(don't you think Octane needs a way to save PSD files? )

Thanks Uwe. I'm still not sure I understand the needs for progressive save of multi-layer EXR's. The Z-Depth, Material Id, and Object Id take a few seconds to render - so in the rare event of a system failure, couldn't you simply re-render these passes?

simply laziness - and the fact I always forget to switch to the passes and save them manually 8-)
don't bother if it's too much work, it's just a feature I liked in Vue - to come back after a render has finished and find all the files ready to go.
what can I say - I'm a sloth :)

we already do have the Multi-pass EXR functionality, and for those who face issues handling the Multi-layer 32bit per color format, a very cheap and well-performing PhotoLine can convert to Multi-layer 16bit per color (for Corel paintshop pro or alike).

So, you just want Multi-pass / layered EXR as an intermediate, ongoing progress tracking tool? Because when you're fine, you only have to save EXR All Passes.

Just wondering...

yeah, that's what I usually remember right after closing the render window :D

okay, but in that case we might prefer a cache (and compare) recent renders function, like we've got in Poser FF and Vue.
Perhaps we can do a referendum on that ;)
