Hi Guys,
I'm planning out my ideas for the competition but at the moment don't really have any idea how far things can be pushed. What we can/can't do at the moment isn't very clear. In the rules for example:
1 Originality and creativity
2 Technical and visual details
3 Viewing experience including navigability and interactivity
4 Overall render quality
1,2 and 4 of the above are obvious but how do we include point 3 from above. Seems like it's all very secretive at the moment. With the deadline approaching in only 3 weeks you'd think there'd be more info available.
Matt
Competition content ???
"Viewing experience" is something to fine tune & I guess a lot depends from chosen point in Your scene.
"navigability and interactivity' - correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand there's not so much to do, considering the fact we are rendering out stills..

I thought the ORBX format allowed interactivity via hotspots etc, it's just no one is telling us how at the moment.

I might miss that info somewhere (if that feature is already available), but I think it's in plans, not yet implimented. As mentioned competitions is for stills (but it would be nice to hear more about that "interactivity", at lest what are the possibilities.)

But they've already mention that you can superimpose video over a background panorama and also animated. All we'd need is ONE sample to pull apart

as far as I understant Guys are trying to lift of with this space ship as early as possible, some work is still in progress (probably), I wouldn't be surprised to see new features comming out from the door sooner rather than later..360precision wrote:But they've already mention that you can superimpose video over a background panorama and also animated. However they clearly stated that this is contest for still =) so better to focus on those. Personaly, I'm still strugling to find "dos & don'ts" for #VR - a lot to lear before jumping in & sinking time crafting the scene..

If that's the case then point #3 should be removed.

I think we need to play with tools we have =) & then who knows, maybe in duration of the process new features will be released..maybe that's why they did monthly deadlines..(?) who knows, but having those stages is beneficial - limitted timeframe sometimes stimulate creativity =) less possibility to overdo & mess things up!

It's just I've spent a lot of time developing a technique for shooting 8k stereo panoramas with embedded 4K content. If I can tie this in with 3D stereo and navigation first prize will be mineglimpse wrote:I think we need to play with tools we have =) & then who knows, maybe in duration of the process new features will be released..maybe that's why they did monthly deadlines..(?) who knows, but having those stages is beneficial - limitted timeframe sometimes stimulate creativity =) less possibility to overdo & mess things up!

..however we can still wait a bit.. as contest is for stills, not movies!
