I am consistently crashing Octane when I try and add an image to a normal. I finally got it to work on my 9th try... had to load the exact same texture file (.jpg) as the normal then I loaded the normal .jpg and it worked.

The error I've been getting is:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Assertion failed!
Prorgam: ...
File: ..\libraries\libnode\nodegraph\nodepin.cpp
Line: 42
Expression: size<2
For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documaantation on asserts.
(Press Retry to debug the application - JIT must be enabled)

Any suggestions?

Hi,

We need a procedure and some files to be able to reproduce the error so we can fix it.

I am getting the same error. But it seams to have no connection with the image file itself - it sometimes occur just because of clicking those triangles next to "floattexture" at "normal" part of shader.
Oh, forgot to add that it happens only for shaders assigned to highpoly models.

High, can you explain this in detail ? Clicking on what ? the triangles ?
Which ones ? the configured pins on the nodes or the collapse/uncollapse triangles (white) in the graph editor ?

Hi.

Sorry for being incoherent.

I meant those triangles allowing user to change map kind - lets say from floattexture to image for example. But i am getting this error only for normal map. Like 4/5 times i try to change it.

Hi,

We need a procedure to reproduce it, and if needed some files, zipped up and posted here, so we can reproduce it...

Hi all,

Same issue for me here. I've simply loaded a .OBJ mesh without .MTL file, with only one object rather heavy (about 300.000 polys). Selected the mesh (with material picker), moved material from default diffuse to glossy, added a heavy color texture (4096x4096 px) for the mesh, added a Normal map (also heavy 4096x4096 px) and after clicked on the open button of the "open texture" dialog, same error. There are 3 buttons in this error dialog, Octane crashes always after clic on any button.
I've tried several times with the same error but after about 5 or 6 times, it worked mysteriously...

The .OBJ file comes from Mudbox 2009 (the Normal map too). I've not yet tried to load it in Cinema 4D and export it back with .MTL file (via Riptide or great C4D to Octane exporter). I'll try that later.

Another question : the normal map exported from Mudbox (as Maya compatibility, is 3DS compatibility better to use for Octane ?) is rather detailled and "heavy" but the result in Octane at max power is really low and almost invisible. I'm sure my scale is correct...

Hope this will help you...

Hey,

Are you sure you're not just running out of GPU memory ?
Have you tried with smaller maps ? just a 1024x1024 or so ?
Also, are these maps HDR (especially the normal map) or not ?

Thanks for your answer Radiance.

Yes, i'm sure there is no problem with GPU memory. I've already loaded really heavier files with several textures like that.
Normal map is 8bits/channel TIF map RGB. Nothing more i think but i'll verify. I'll try later to investigate deeper if you want.

It's not the first time i have this error. Unfortunately, previous time i didn't post a message because i didn't have enough informations to give. I saw this post and tried to reproduce the error message.

Well, i can't reproduce it here, so i need a procedure and some files so i can reproduce it.
If anyone can, you can post them zipped here, or if you don't want your data shared, PM or email me...
