Hi,

Is this possible to drive the instance color with a map?
In lw render you can use instance info node with map to determine the color of every single instance.
Can this be done with octane plugin?

Thank you.

You could try to use the Octane projection node in world space to apply the texture to the instances material.

Hi Junajo,

Thank you.

I have tried this solution. In some case this can do the job.
But this is not the best way. Because every instance must have a single color. The color of the referal pixel in the texture map.
With map projection, you have only the top color with the right color.

The closest thing I can see that would allow you to control the exact colors for every instance would be to use the gradient node along with the random color node to produce a less patterned look to the color of the flowers. That said since the link isn't working I'm not sure this is what you want.

Ideally, the instance should "inspect" the texture map and grab the RGB value of the nearest pixel at the corresponding XZ coordinates: in the case of, for example, a carpet, this would give every single fiber a solid colour rather than a cubic projected texture map as it is now.

Yeah, it sounds impossible. But then, I'm not a nodal wizard like some of you guys, so who knows? :)

Hmm... You can actually plug the HPB Matrix and Add Scaled nodes into the Octane Projection node, but without the raytrace node the results seem quite unpredictable. It feels like it should be doable somewhat, but I'm missing something...
