Thanks Sci Fi Funk ;)

The 'blue' RT setting issue is one a few of the original testers experienced in the early days but the one with the image file browser (see the video posted above) has only been something I have had so far! Thanks for your reply and plz mention this if it should happen to you ok ;)

BTW, looking forward to seeing you 'crowd scene' in the subway animated mate :)

No worries Neil.

Now's the time to highlight all the issues.

re: Crowd scene. Looking forward to that as well. Expect a lot of shuffling and waiting poses.

Working on a little test scene to Demo Carrara-Octane Camera Blur, plus to talk about how great it is to model with instant feedback!

Just gotta tweak that model a bit more ....

Modelling with the viewport open, what a great idea! I gotta try that...

I am willing to accept its an idiosyncrasy of Octane perhaps, but to me it behaves like a bug. Incidentally this is happening with other camera movement. I am just about to make a test video which I'll post to this thread (via youtube). I'll delete it when we are satisfied that this is an issue.

One moment...

Happy to upload this if you want to see it. What I've noticed when watching the video myself is that as soon as I move the camera (having turned auto focus off), because the camera settings are auto focus on, it reapplies the autofocus.

So you've got camera settings over-ridding the viewport settings. By turning autofocus off as a camera setting this is no longer an issue.

So now it comes down to whether you consider the fact that viewport settings are not overriding camera settings to be a bug. I would think it is, but now I have a work around it's a very low priority fix in my book.

Cheers.
If you are in free camera mode then none of the camera settings (including focus) are written back to Carrara. May this be your issue?

Possibly. The point I'm trying to make is that if you have the viewport open and you make changes there, surely it should (temporarily) override the settings elsewhere to let you play with your output? Pretty sure that's how the DAZ interface works. To me this is low priority though as there is a work around (use DOF on your camera and turn auto focus off).

I hope you've seen my earlier posts today. I put in a shift on testing large scenes which should help any artists out there going down similar lines to myself (an animated film). I'm in touch with a couple of Carrara fanatics doing this as well. I'm happy to summarize my priorities (show stoppers, most awkward findings) at some point if you like.

Right now working with modelling with the Octane viewport open which is just wonderful. :)

Regarding the load time between frames: The plug-in needs to reload (and process) a mesh if it changes in way. For a crowd scene this is going to be expensive as any character that is morphing in any way (walking, breathing, etc) will have to be reloaded. The only actions on a mesh that are cheep are scale, translation, and rotation. This would make for a very unrealistic crowd so be prepared for longer load times between frames when there is a lot of morphing going on.

Ok thanks. re: morphing. There are a lot of characters - maybe 30-40 rotating limbs as the animation (the others are static). I think I come within the cheap actions, but it is 30-40 pieces of animation per frame. So I'll assume that's it then.

Thankyou.

I'm getting a few errors with the Plugin.

I'm using Carrara 8.1.1 Build 12 (32 bit).
OS is Windows 7 32 bit.
Video card is a GeForce 9300M GS
Driver version is 340.52
OctaneRender for Carrara version is 2.06.0047
I currently have ever Carranza plugin that can still be downloaded installed.
Installed RAM 4.00 GB with 2.99 Usable
Octane Stand Alone is at 2.06. I also have Octane 1.51 installed.

When ever I exit out of Carrara most of the time I get an error saying Carrara has stopped working.

I also can not get anything to render in Octane in Carrara. The plugin is activated. I'm trying to render just a simple sphere with the blue plastic Shader on it that is part of the Basic Shaders. I cna adjust settings and such using the plugin.

My older standalone Octane 1.51 & 2.02 was working with no problems a few weeks ago. I just updated to the 2.06 version of Octane after I got the plugin.

Umm, well not quite. Rotating a limb actually morphs the mesh of the character around the shoulder joint unless the limb is a separate mesh and is on a pivot (like a robot arm).

There may be an incompatibility with one of the plugins. I certainly don't have 'all of them'. Is it possible for you to install another copy of Carrara in a separate location without the other plugins just to see if it will work?
