Sometimes you have to think outside the box to get what you want! I know what I want but how do I get it?
voon Yes there is only seems to be two of us at the moment working on any kind of SSS skin materials for octane render within the poser section
If there are any other people this certainly don't share the findings .
my self & Witpapier The main contributors to any sss stuff .
The first two are experimental skin types ! Still very much in the alpha stages
The first picture there some problems with the mapping that need to store sort out take me a few weeks to work out various things
But I pretty much nailed nailed it far as I'm concerned still long way from The final finished version

That does seem to be the case, and I love both of your results. I've been taking notes and trying to learn from what you've both already done. Have to say being able to export to Octane Standalone was very helpful for studying the node layout of Tonysculptor's sss.
I've been too busy to dig deep, been spending my spare time on the realtime side of things, studying view oriented cascaded voxel cone tracing.
I think when I do get around to trying to dig deeper, I will be looking for something that works with sunlight and object lights, using IES and IOR(which I also need to study more). I'm thinking a good approach might be to try coming up with SSS without using a texture map and try to come up with something that looks like Zbrush SSS. Maybe some Wax is needed.
Thanks for sharing your results.

I'm very new to 3D and rendering, so anything I say is kind of "the childs observation"
I'm fascinated by such threads to find the perfect material, especially for the very difficult ones, like skin. I assumed SSS means sub surface scatter .. or just in nooboterms "slightly translucent, with light being thrown amywhere inside the material". I'm not sure if I got that right. But combined with a good texture with all kinds of skin impurities, your works look impressive.

OK so ive played around with the Original REDSPEC3.0 and added some new things to it. And its on the first page for anyone to download. enjoy it... please go and make a turn at the deviantart group page called REDSPECSSS, and see some awesome renders.

I have been using the Shaders from Witpapier for a little while now, and I have been thoroughly impressed with the results that can be achieved with the different types he has made. On that note, Chopper I am also impressed from what I am seeing from yours as well. Although I can only tell from the pictures you have posted, it looks like you and Witpapier are going to be the ones everyone will want to use.
Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone, I'm a complete newbee to Octane and am trying to render a head. Please would someone show a typical node layout for using the Daz skin node with a painted texture map. My model is UV'd and displays fine in Octane but I'd like to apply some SSS. Grateful for any help, thanks.
