Hi guys, here's another wip of an old scene I had archived in my drive lit with an hdr image:

I've noticed that fireflies in the latest beta 2.1 are almost a thing of the past; either they don't show up or they get cleaned pretty fast. However there are still some hdris that make the fireflies more intense and more difficult to clean, as in the next image:

I also tried another hdri, just in case:

So the thing is; is octane more sensitive to generate fireflies with certain hdris? Does it have to do with the image's illumination info color? The one with fireflies is reddish. ;)

Try a diffused (blurred) version of the hdri for a more smooth illumination. HDRShop can do that operation automatically (Diffused Convolution they call it)

Hi,

Yeah, if you use a hdri with a small / bright area, the chance that a ray will find that will be small,
so when it does every few millions of samples, with a long path, it will generate a hot pixel.

These are things that need to be importance sampled, which is what MLT does, and it won't be long now until we've got MLT in octane ready to use.

for better quality results (aliasing etc...)
