- realistic skin shading is probably most challenging in any application, or drawing or whatever, so you started with a difficult one - you really have to dig into that one, and try to understand how the sliders react - try it out and then seek specific information on skin, test out each slider, and look more info into each one on the forum, after you test them..

- otherwise, start with the basic settings, add diffuse textures, bump, see how they react - using octane finally let me understand how textures behave, since you do not need to know absolutely everything to get great looking renders, two diffuse textures and a good light setting can make a great visualisation
- play a lot, it's fun experimenting with octane - this is what helps to learn more, sometimes you just hit a magic note

example / one diffuse texture, and octane sun - set around early in the morning

I've been meaning to play with Octane more, and I do plan on doing so soon. It's just that I'm in school at the moment so I haven't had the time. My summer vacation just started and I will probably have the time after my co-op and such to play with it. But I also have other stuff I need to learn/practice so a guide of some sort would have been helpful. Even if it's not Octane specific but still applicable.
