We all know, that if you wanna make cool animations with octane in max, you have to use a Octane camera and not the "standart camera, cause only the octane camera can be animated and be exactly controlled over time with DOF and many other parameters!
If you own a 3dconnexion device you are completely free and fast in 3ds. You can move your perspective/camera or even the objects itself!
If you choose a standart camera you have 2 options. Target camera and Free camera. The target camera is exactly like the octane camera. You have a Target Point and a camera and adjust all you need. But with the 3d Mouse this camera is very useless, cause you cannot make cool animations. You simply can not controll the camera with the 3d mouse, cause it is allways adjusted to the Target point. You are not "free" and not flexible.
One of the biggest advantages of the 3d mouse is, that you can enable AUTOKEY ANIMATION. Then 3ds sets with every movement automatically a key and your "flight" or "driving" through the scene is recorded. VERY usefull and a BIG timesaver. But you only can use this if you use the free camera.
Octane Camera has no "free" camery, just the target camera which limits 3d mouse users completely unnecessery! So i have 2 options - use standart camera and dont have the chance to control it over time in the animation......or use octane camera, be able to controll all parameters but i cannot control it completely with the 3d mouse! I can also not do the animation as i want it with the 3d Mouse. I only have the option to move/ set keyframes and / or use paths! USELESS nowadays!
Please octane team give us a "free" octane camera and not only a target camera! This is neccessery NOW cause it is completely useless like it is.
You can draw paths, set keyframes - try and decidy and do a final rendering. OK. But this workflow takes about 8 times longer as with a normal "free" camera! Believe me i did many comparisons!
In my animations, i fly through the scene like i want the camera driving/flying - after that i optimaze the keyframes - set parameters like DOF and fokuspoint - render! Fits perfectly! All together about 6 minutes!
In octane - draw path - connect the path to the camera - control animation - readjust path - control - readjust - control - readjust - control - readjust - control - set parameters in octane camera and do final settings - control again - render: 48 minutes!
Please. Give us a "free Camera".........Yesterday!
Kind regards Chris!
Improvement for 3dconnexion for max. Why we need it NOW!

Possibly they have many things listed to do and this really isn't a priority right now.
Development has been steady. Be patient fellow user and dont demand still more things yesterday.
These sort of demands won't go down well if you are already a hardworking coder doing your best.

Hi Mimbik! You can still use standard max camera. You have settings under render setup as well.
Thans for your answer! I could use the standart Camera and the settings in the Octane render Menu, yes - but those are not animatable! So for example you can not animate DOF, FOV and many other things! So its useless for me

Chris!

Thanks for your answer. Maybe it is not a priority for you - for some others it is. We talked about this issue with others, when we had our "meeting". Octane is a great tool but limits itself because of things like this. It could do so much more with some littttllleee changes like that new camera. I tried to argument and show WHY this camera is so important for 3d mouse users! I hope i made it clear! It would be a HUGE timesaver and would make our work so much easier! The biggest Problem in our business is little time and deadlines! This would help us a lot! You will allways use the best program with best setup possibilities and fastest workflow to get your job done in the shortest amount of time with the best result. Right? So do i and i want octane to be one of those programs! Thats why i gave this feedback! An orthographic camera is not so important, from my pont of view, like this camera!
At least they dont even need to built in a completely NEW camera, just a button, where a user is able to deactivate the target function, and set the camera "free"!
I do not DEMAND. I tried to tell them why we need it and why they should implement it! I think refractive wants to sell a tool that can do great jobs in the cgi und vfx industry! This is necessera for it!
Kind regards Chris!
