I love the subsampling options in the standalone and wish they were available in 3ds max viewport (and probably all the other plugins too!)

When you have interactive viewport open while editing your materials and lights, I think it's recommended to use sample environment DL mode as it's the one with least most strain on your GPU.
And subsampling would make that even better!
