Upgrade Enterprise version 4 to Enterprise v2021?

Hi there,

I've been using Octane on and off over the last couple of years. I do own a perpetual Octane v4 license (initially purchased as a Cinema4D plugin), but have been mostly using the monthly rental instead when I needed it.

I have now started to use Octane more regularly again and would therefore like to update my perpetual v4 license. When I follow the update link (https://render.otoy.com/shop/upgrade.php), I am offered the choice to upgrade to v2020 perpetual.

Now I've got two questions:

1) My Octane v4 perpetual license is currently restricted to Cinema4D only. Once I upgrade to v2020, will my perpetual license still be tied to Cinema4D, or will I be able to use for example the Houdini or Unreal plugins after my maintenance plan has run out?

2) Octane has now reached v2021. If I upgrade my v4 license now, will I automatically 'jump' to a perpetual v2021 license, or would I have to upgrade twice, in order to reach the most recent version? In that case buying an entirely new license would work out the same (which would of course be a shame).

Thanks for letting me know :)

Hi,
if you want to use new versions, you can purchase an annual Enterprise subscription update for 199€, but at the end of the annual maintenance, your licenses will go back to v4:
https://render.otoy.com/shop/upgrade.ph ... C67-UGAA1Y.

if you want to upgrade also your v4 perpetual licenses to perpetual v2020, the upgrading path is more expensive, to know the price, please visit the following link:
https://render.otoy.com/shop/upgrade.php

At the end of the annual maintenance, your licenses will stay to v2020, with Standalone and c4doctane plugin only.
There is not a Perpetual 2021 upgrade, so you need an active annual maintenance extension, to be able to use 2021, or 2022.

Please note that the annual maintenance offers you the possibility to use any type of Octane DCC plug-in, including C4D or Maya, or OctaneX, and ORC/RNDR render cloud services (render credits need to be purchased separately).

For Net render with Perpetual or Subscription Enterprise licenses, you need to purchase extra Render-Node annual licenses for 99€, or pay monthly for 9.99€

ciao,
Beppe

Thanks Beppe. Does this mean Otoy doesn’t offer perpetual licensing anymore from v2021, i.e. renting will be the only option going forward? If that’s the case I might as well stick with an annual subscription.

Thanks for letting me know.

There is not a Perpetual 2021 upgrade, so you need an active annual maintenance extension, to be able to use 2021, or 2022.

What's the point of buying the Enterprise Box license then if we don't get to keep the latest version? Wasn't that the point behind the box license in the first place? So we can actually continue to work with our files when the maintenance expires? If that wasn't the plan, then you shouldn't have sold it in the first place. Why even upgrade the legacy v4 version then?

We are retiring boxed licenses from the shop page shortly now that 2021.1.1 is stable. We released 2020 perpetual for the subset of users that wanted to have a perpetual option past V4 (which was originally meant to be the final perpetual update as a free upgrade from V3). For 2021 and beyond you will need a sub or active maintenance (on top of perpetual). The subs are cheap, and maintenance is cheaper, and free tiers (one GPU) cost nothing - all will have the full 2022 features.

Ok. Thanks for clarifying.
