Hi
Why does octane have such a problem blending two grid boxes with the same step length. We have a sim for a large fire and a sim box around flying propane tank (it does have smaller grid cell size) You can clearly see borders of a smaller propane sim grid Why cannot it blend in since sim box is clear Thanks

Hi coilbook,
Using the same cell size should work. Is'nt it?

Hi Paride

i will check. usually you can still see some borders. Problem is large fire is slow to simulate unlike propane small flame therefore cells are different sizes .

this is what chaos said "Haven't seen such artifacts before. Can you try comparing it to a V-Ray or scanline render?" not sure if they even have a problem like this even with different grid sizes

By the way, circled in green is a copy of the propane tank flame with different cell size and it looks good. For some reason this happens when another cell grid is turned differently

Hi paridie

I sent you a file with two phoenix grids with already simulated fires propane fire and large fire. You can clearly see half of the propane fire is missing when it is inside large detailed fire . It looks like octane bug with overlapping grids. I will email you we transfer link shortly. If you do not see flames just set inputs to the folder i sent you where the simed files are and go to frame 677. If you move propane fire from the grid it comes back. By the way sometimes it renders full flame sometimes it does not.

Thank you

Also attached here is the same scene I sent you but this time grid is turned where you can see edges of smaller grid. Same step length. vray does not have this problem Please use same sim files i sent using wetrasfer with a half missing fire Grid in grid visibility bug usually happens with fires. Smoke grids are fine

Thank you!

Hi
here is Chaos reply about grid artifacts and half missing fire "Thanks for the scene! Got it and rendered it with V-Ray and Scanline and there don't seem to be such artifacts. You could turn off 'emit light' or order to speed up the tests. I'm afraid it could be an Octane issue since we are explicitly taking care of overlapping containers when rendering natively with Scanline or V-Ray and this must be handled explicitly by the renderer. Does it happen with FumeFX volumes and Octane?"

So I think Octane does not render VDBs right when two grids over lap.

Thank you

I am testing out 3Ds Max 2018 Demo and are using the Demo 3.06.4 - 4.39. As I'm no regular 3Ds Max user (I have been using Modo and C4D..) I do not know if this is regarding Octane or Max, but I experience a lag when working with shaders/materials in the slate editor. Is this normal? I heard that there was a stalling bug in the latest release of Octane, heard this from a C4D guy, so I do not know if this is true in Max also.

Hi haffy,
I have no idea exactly what you are referring to around stalling bug and it is difficult to give a generic answer.
It could depend on various reasons, Textures and/or very heavy HDRIs in the material editor at the same time and/or shared on the network.
There are some OctaneRender for 3ds max, tools that you can configure in Octane Render Setup and verify your issue.

Hi Paride

were you able to recreate half missing flame and grid borders showing when overlapping another grid? Thank you
