NVIDIA 418.81 driver (Feb. 4th) doesn't work with Octane - please don't update yet! We are working with NVIDIA to fix ASAP. We need to recompile Octane 4/2018.1+ to work with this driver version, and will post an update to this thread once that is done and confirmed working. Thank you!

Update:

In order to resolve the OSL compilation issues experienced due to changes in the NVIDIA Drivers, you will need to ensure that you have installed a supported driver for your version of OctaneRender.
  • OctaneRender 4.02.1 and higher requires NVIDIA driver version 419.17 or higher.
  • OctaneRender 4.02 and lower requires NVIDIA driver version 417.71 or lower.
If you are using a driver that is not supported, you will either be unable to render at all, or renders will fail with OSL compilation errors noted in the OctaneRender Log.

You went into safe mode and uninstalled 418.81 with DDU and after the restart it would not allow you to install 417.71?

Hello,
Any update on getting this fixed? I am going on day 3 with no renders. Windows will not allow me to install 417.71 and I followed all the instructions. Don't want to do a complete reinstall of everything.
Thanks
Matt

I don't know how you've tried to, but i made the same mistake of updating to 418.81 and I just went to the Nvidia website and downloaded 417.71 and it worked for me.

Hi Matt,
if you are running under Windows 10, you could disable automatic windows 10 update, then install 417.71 Nvidia drivers.
To get an effective Nvidia drivers installed, please use DDU Nvidia unistaller drivers, the best way to get a clean installation.

Thank you so much for your reply. Nothing is working.
1. Started in SafeMode
2. Ran DDU Nvidia Unistaller
3. Downloaded Nvidia 417.71 installer
4. Error on install (See photo)

Windows 10, version 1809
Thanks
