He uses Octane plugin for Cinema4D, I'm surprised he doesn't post in this forum

...it's the "real-displacement-guy" here

just to inform you. Some things have changed:
the map-setup is now different to the one from the free demo.
I also use a light-canceling-process and I could dramatically rise the scan-resolution by stitching scans.
I think I'm close to megascans, but I can't say. I have no material to compare.
Look, this thing simply got his own dynamic.
I developed the workflow about a year ago just for my one purpose and my one productions.
Than people pushed me to publish this.
I posted on Artstation and got over 5000 views in a view days, so I decided to make a texture-pack.
Now it's 150.000 visitors and endless requests, so I decided to make a homepage for selling them.
I've got a pack of 26 surfaces ready and I'm just waiting for my web-guys to finish the shop.
Meanwhile I'm playing around - testing what goes and it's really great !! You will see.
The surfaces looks highly realistic - you save a lot of resources in compareson to use the original scangeometry - you don't need to scatter.
You can stack planes with different surfaces together and you get a supernice mix because of the random intersection.
You can create landscapes in highspeed ...see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CYwHccQPMQ
You can create realistic environments in 5min.
You can use it for sculpting
It's totally fun to animate the UV-offset...
It surprised myself what potential the textures have and I find more and more nice purposes for them.
I think you'll like them.
Planed for the future is: mixed-collection-vol2 (more focus stuff like asphalt, briks...), snowpack, microsurfaces, barks and more....
Cheers !
p.s. the shop http://www.real-displacement-textures.com should go online by the end of this week.

Wow. Really nice Christoph! At 0:50, the stones really appear to wrap around the undersides, and not just displaced... I'm sure that is just clever lighting and camera angle, but damn is that sweet looking. You can tell up close that leaves are displaced, but those look wonderful too, and would likely be fine for most scenes, and preferable to scattering geo. And good thing Octane team got out-of-core working... gonna need it.
Just downloaded your dirt pack.. what is the deal with 2 versions each: bump, bump2, spec, spec2, normal, normal2, etc, etc?...

Hey Frank.
Thanks.
Yes the "underside-effect" is cool. These are baked in shadows. In deeper areas it's good to keep them but you can tweak that effect a little with the AO-map if you like.
Tip: octanes dirt-shader is also very interesting here !!
I'm sorry Frank, I don't know what dirt-pack you mean. Did I send you something? Sorry can't remember right now.
I had many alternative layers in early tests...
All surfaces in the collection except the first two are provided with 4k and 8k for all layers. I have them in the same folder - maybe thats what you mean?
Thanks.

Couldn't remember where I saw these. Glad I found them again.
Will buy as soon as they're released.

You are above what I would call the sweet spot on those. At $80 or so, I would not hesitate whatsoever, and so would many, many others. You would make money hand-over-fist at $80 - $100 (usd). You are only going to get handfuls of buyers at €149.00/$158USD, rather than just about everyone, and their brother.... lmk if I end up wrong.
You could always increase costs later. But a lower intro price point is where you want to be pal. Get folks hooked on these. Get enough capital going to build this into something.
They really, really look great though. I'm very impressed. However, I for one would love a very clean version of mulch... one that would look like freshly placed in landscaping. And make it a medium color around 127, for maximum ability to turn into any one of the hundreds of mulch colors, without losing detail.
Your name/domain is really, really long and has two dashes in it. texturescans.com is available... Megascans is not trademarked™ by Q, you are in direct competition with Q's MS and they do not own the word scans, thus, nothing to gain from avoiding the word scans if that was intentional... not too late to change, imho.
Have you put out a press release?.. There is no good reason why there is nothing about this release on CGChannel.com or CGPress.org
Am I getting a free pack, for all these wonderful nuggets?
