We are building an object library. In C4d I can copy and paste a mesh and the octane materials come over. How do you do this with modo? If I drag it to a new scene it gives me a "mask" as an override, then nothing is in it. But if I copy and paste it to a new scene, it will bring over some stuff. But not image maps that I have in the override?

I ended up getting it to copy in paste as long as I had the image map in the texture group when I created the octane override, but then how do you add another image map to that so I can copy and paste it to a new scene?

Or do we abandon octane overrides all together? If everythin accessible without them or something and it converts on the fly? I am just thinking like "Fake Shadows" in transparent materials or something. Can you use that without an octane override?

What i do is

a) Render the Object, Export Frame os Orbx and use this as a Proxy. This is very convenient if you don't want to animate or deform the mesh
b) Delete everything unnecessary from the scene and import into the new scene. Overrides stay intact this way

You can also save the mesh as a modo mesh preset and the overrides should be preserved:

1. Right click the Mesh in the Item List > Presets > Save
2. Save the LXL file to a path that is visible in your F6 preset browser.
3. In your new scene, press F6 to open the preset browser, locate the preset and double click it to load it.

If that doesnt work for some reason, you can also save out an assembly preset. See the docs:

Thanks. I didn't see that in the docs!! I will be sure to test these today. I think it will be a very big improvement to our workflow at our studio.

I had no idea the material overrides were preserved when you save a mesh preset. That's actually very useful.
