Hi all,

This release fixes various bugs that got reported for the previous version 4 RC 1.

Please note that this build will expire in 120 days, this is now shown on the bottom right of the Standalone release.

As before, some introductory material on V4 can be found here: first release post of V4.

Whilst we have reached the feature lock milestone, we consider this a non-stable release, as we expect to stabilise in preparation for the first stable. Until then, please do not use this for production purposes.

Please make sure you have NVIDIA driver 387 or newer on Windows and Linux, and any CUDA driver for Mac that supports CUDA 9.1. Please also note that architecture improvements mean we can no longer support Fermi GPUs.


Changes since OctaneRender 4 RC1:
  • Added an approximation for ozone absorption to the planetary environment. This improves the appearance of the model during twilight: The sky will actually look blue rather than yellowish grey.
  • Added import preference to the image tile texture node to allow the selection of the color type you want to load the image in, to allow the reduction of memory usage if you use the image tile texture only as greyscale texture (see viewtopic.php?p=343731#p343731).
  • Added support for image compression to the image tile texture node.
  • Fixed crash due to (unsupported) AVX instructions in the denoiser.
  • Fixed crash due to failing to page-lock the result buffer of the denoiser.
  • Fixed crash in the denoiser if the film resolution is not a multiple of 4.
  • Fixed render failure if the scene doesn't contain instances.
  • Fixed a network render crash when AI light is disabled (see viewtopic.php?p=343850#p343850).
  • Fixed incorrect UV mapping of on-the-fly compressed image textures (see viewtopic.php?p=343830#p343830).
  • Fixed artefacts in some image compresison formats (when done on-the-fly).
  • Fixed missing Volta support on OSX.
  • Lua: Fixed preview rendering via octane.render.preview().

I have big problems playing Battlefield 1 while Octane is rendering. ( before there was no problems at all )

With last couple versions 3: I get a critical GPU error and a driver recovery

With version 4: I don't get an error but CPU usage while rendering is considerably higher then version 3 which makes for a lot of stuttering while playing

I have disabled the usage of display GPU for tonemaping and denoising.

Hahahaha... Sorry I was just imagine somebody rendering for deadline but using the GPU for Games. while rendering. But yeah fair enough hehe.

Boris, please tell me how you crank out so much damn work (and top-shelf work at that) AND have time to play Battlefield.. let alone sleep, eat, scratch your butt, etc... I would absolutely love to know your secret.
