Hi all,

This is the second and hopefully last release candidate of 3.08, fixing all kinds of bugs and issues. It's also available for all 3 platforms again. If no major issues are found with this build, we will release the stable version by the end of the week or beginning of next week.

For an overview of all new features of 3.08, please read the new features thread.

We are now using CUDA toolkit 9.1 (required to support Volta), which requires NVIDIA drivers of version 387 or higher.

The offline licensing mode is still disabled in this version, but will be available again in the stable version.

Changes since version 3.08 RC 1:
  • Brought back support for Linux and OSX. Please note that on OSX Volta is not supported yet, because there is no graphics driver available which supports the current 9.1 CUDA driver.
  • Improved deep image rendering by allowing a larger tolerance for merging deep point samples when hitting a surface at a grazing angle.
  • Fixed various bugs in deep image rendering:
    • The bottom 3/4 of exported EXR files are slightly transparent.
    • If the image width is not a multiple of 4, the exported deep image contains diagonal lines with infinite values.
    • GPU failure if a render region is used and extends to the bottom of the image.
  • Fixed dispersion in specular materials (see viewtopic.php?p=332244#p332244).
  • Fixed halos and wrong brightness in PMC (see viewtopic.php?p=332238#p332238).
  • Fixed incorrect loading of HDR images that overflow 16-bit floating point numbers (see viewtopic.php?p=332369#p332369).
  • Fixed direct light contribution on back-faces of polygons with a glossy material.
  • Fixed bug where some indirect reflections are added to the refraction pass.
  • Added support for meta datas min, max, slidermin, etc. for vector, normal and point inputs.
  • Fixed crash when compiling OSL shader with unreachable code.
  • OctaneLive status is only displayed, when activated.
  • Fixed crash when the command line option --help is used.

Excellent. Just waiting for the C4D plugin update to support OSX too.

Every time I change Rendertarget the entire scene is sent to the slave again. Usually that didn't happen.

Thanks for the Linux version, but unfortunately it doesn't work on my system. :( I can start Octane up and load in a scene, but when I click on the mesh, geometry group, or render target node it looks like it's started to render but nothing happens. Sometime I can get a start of an image (1 or 2 spp) but it just stops and I have to kill Octane. During this, one to three of my CPU cores will be pegged at 100%. No error messages or logs.

hi,

thanks for the update.

I think there's an issue with box projection, which is present since the 3.08 test releases.

Left Side Box Projection, Right Side UV Projection
It occurs with higher bump strength values (I have other examples where it happens with values below 1)
3.08.jpg

In Version 3.07 both render fine.

I can confirm it, all combinations of 16bit/32bit environment HDR bit depths and PT/PMC kernels gives now pretty same render output :)

Sorry for the Linux issues. We are currently looking into it.
