SketchUp Plugin v3.06 - Introduction Video

The SketchUp plugin has undergone a major overhaul. After a thoroughly complex process, we're happy to see it arrive to this stage. The core part of the plugin that uses Flash code - which we were forced to use back when SketchUp didn't support anything else - has now been removed and replaced with a very robust UI. A large portion of this is attributed to the plugin's new node graph editor as you will also now be able to reuse components of Octane Standalone directly inside the SketchUp plugin.

Here's a fresh video by Azen providing an overview of the plugin's node graph editor. For those who have used the former Sketchup Plugin, it's high time to get re-introduced, please do check the video as it shows the new and more intuitive workflow.

Thanks for the video - we definitely need icons to control all the settings as in the standalone. I wrote it in the separate thread.
Win7, Modo 10.1, Octane for Modo and Sketchup, nVidia latest, TITAN+3x780 6GB, 2600K, P8P67WS, 32GB, 1350W

Some Questions:

1. How is this workflow different from previously saving an Octane file and opening it up in Octane? Is it the addition of live linking? Is that the sum total of the 'new' plugin...live linking to the base Octane app? Or, am I missing something...
2. Are there LIGHT objects in SketchUp?
3. Does the plugin use the existing sun and light information from SketchUp?
4. If I change the geometry in SketchUp of a mesh, does it lose all material setting in Octane?
5. Are components rendered as instances in Octane?
6. Is there a way to match the exact same screen size as what you see in SketchUp?

Hi,

The provision of the features noted here, will require the exposure of related dependencies in the Standalone (3.06.1). Everything that can be done from the plugin side to complete the release version of the SU plugin has been completed, so focus is on exposing the necessary SU dependencies. The workflow of the finished final result will be akin to what you see in the video, except it will be deeply integrated within Sketchup without need for Exporting to the Standalone. More tutorial resources will be generated to cover workflow in greater detail upon the release of the plugin.

Cheers,
Azen

Azen,

Thanks for your reply. That was an answer to number 1 above. What about numbers 2-6?

Perfect. Been using standalone for a long time in the meantime. While the documentation is okay, its not as detailed as it could be. YouTube videos for C4D have a similar nodal structure and are a great primer for learning more advanced material and concepts.
