Umm, guys, it looks like Softimage is likely going to be completely killed by 2016 - and Autodesk is going to offer migration to Max or Maya... I am Lightwave guy myself, but just stumbled upon this and thought you might want the heads up:

Yes, it looks so.
The good news is, subscription users can switch to Maya or 3DS Max to learn it, without selling them till 2016.
After 2016 we must decide if we want to use Softimage or Maya/3DS and put back one of the licenses.

I think i will stay with Softimage after 2016 if the workflow and UI handling from Maya isn´t significant changed.
The workflow from Softimage is the best i´ve ever seen and used.
Point...

And depending on what you do Modo.

Check the forums over at the Foundry. In the SI thread there is a link that gives SI users 50% off of a new Modo license.

That´s correct,
but you will have the AD apps for free. For a people which can´t spend money in a new app and must change to life, a good offer.
On the other side, you can´t know if your chosen app is the next which will become a kick in the a..

And at least, the ethical values.
Because i use it only as hobby, i have no strain to switch.

I have also Modo 601 at last, but as an alternative to Softimage, it isn´t in my further range to detach Softimage.
I´m more like a TD, so a switch to Houdini or Cinema will be a better choice i think.
But that´s all in a further future...

Fully agree with you there. Modo isn't mature enough in those areas yet hence my "depending on what you do" disclaimer above.
